About the Band Leader

Nadia has been the Band Leader of the BrizWest Concert Band since 2009. She is currently completing a Bachelor of Music (Musicology and Flute Performance) at The University of Queensland (UQ) and holds a Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) also from UQ. Nadia has studied conducting with Maestro Michael Christie (as a student guest with The Queensland Orchestra in 2004), Mark Sullivan (Brisbane Girls Grammar School), Prof. Gwyn Roberts (UQ), Dr Peter Morris (Queensland Conservatorium) and Dr Barry Kopetz (USA).

Nadia also performs as principal piccolo of the UQ Wind Symphony, UQ Symphony Orchestra and the Second Queensland Youth Orchestra. She is a member of the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE) and the Australian Band and Orchestra Directors’ Association (ABODA).

In her free time (a mostly foreign concept!), Nadia likes to read, bake cakes and biscuits, dance (very badly), and sing (probably worse than the dancing).
